Merry Hankmas (part ii)

It's that time of year again!  Hankmas time (click here if you missed last year.....)

TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE HANKMAS....

Twas the night before Hankmas, when all through the house
A snoring Hankers slept, a little louder than a mouse.
Hank had eaten a big meal of bread stew,
And he'd snuck some crumbs in the kitchen, maybe one or two.

Daisy had eaten her yogurt and dry food,
And Duchess ate anything that could not elude.
But now all dogs and cats were off in dreamland,
Tomorrow Santy Paws might come, he's in high demand!

Hank was not sure if it was part of a dream,
But there was a loud noise or so it would seem.
Was it a squirrel, a mouse, or Duchess the cat?
Or maybe a possum, a bird, or a big flying bat!

Hank went to the window and tight pressed his nose,
Curtains to the side with nose pushing throws!
And a flash of red and a hint of white,
Hank saw something faint out in the moonlight.

That something turned around and headed Hank's way,
And what were those furry animals, did they come to play?
The front one had a great big red shiny nose,
And they all flew with hooves there in place of their toes!

Hank knew who it was - the great Santy Paws,
Along with his reindeer who didn't follow the gravity laws.
Santy Paws called from his sleigh up so high,
"All animals I come bearing gifts you can't buy!"

"I come bearing morsels of food oh so tasty,
a rawhide sandwich, a peanut butter pastry!"
Hearing this made little Hank wag his tail,
Because he knew he'd been good - that he did not fail.

Hank looked up in sky to see the sleigh's location,
He stared at the stars with great concentration.
And that star that twinkled, just a little too red,
Now shot through the sky right over his head!

Santy Paws and the sleigh were right over up above!
Those great hoofed animals, he called to and said with love,
"Go reindeer, please fly, up into the sky!
"Fly over roofs and mountains tops ever so high!"

And then as graceful as they flew all around,
They landed on the roof with hardly a sound!
The noise on the roof was not what you'd think,
Just the jingle of bells: twinkle twinkle clink clink.

Hank just waited staring up there at the ceiling,
Then through the fireplace came something quite revealing!
There were shadows and clouds of ash and some dust,
And Hank smelled with his nose, the smell of reindeer musk!

It was Santy Paws indeed, he knew now for sure,
What would he bring Hank, this year on his tour?
He left all the presents over out by the tree,
For Daisy, for Duchess, for Hank - that's three!

Daisy and Hank got rawhides the size of a kitty!
Duchess got a new collar, so pink and so pretty!
But Santy Paws was gone as quickly as he came,
Just another flash of red and up the chimney the same.

The presents, the reindeer - it all happened so fast
And how did Santy Paws cover distance so vast?
On one hand Hank really wanted to know
But instead the seeds of imagination he did sow

Hank ran to the window and looked back in the sky,
Santy Paws flew away, the sleigh led by reindeer so high.
And Santy Paws said as the sleigh banked to the right,
"Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!"

MERRY HANKMAS!!!
